About

Carol Anne Stewart

I am a researcher, writer, and creative communications professional with more than 20 years of experience in graphic design, branding, marketing, and visual communication. My professional background includes creative direction, business marketing, advertising, and print and digital design. My academic work at Brigham Young University has expanded my focus into American history, religious studies, literature, women’s history, and cultural interpretation.

Through Designs by CAS, I have worked with businesses, schools, organizations, and individual clients on projects ranging from brand development and advertising campaigns to websites, publications, custom stationery, and event design. My work with Springville Dentistry and Canyon Creek Orthodontics included marketing and advertising during a period when both practices expanded from one office to three locations each. I created magazine advertisements, Google advertising materials, print and digital campaigns, and promotional materials, including two billboards displayed along Interstate 15 for Canyon Creek Orthodontics.

As Creative Director for Ivy Hall Academy, I developed marketing and communication materials, designed and managed the school’s website, and supported its visual identity across print and digital platforms. My independent design work has also included wedding invitations and coordinated event signage, Christmas cards, announcements, special-event invitations, and custom print materials. These projects have given me extensive experience working directly with clients, managing creative projects, and carrying ideas from initial concepts through final production.

In January 2024, I returned to Brigham Young University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies. My coursework has brought together American history, religion, English literature, gender studies, and cultural analysis, giving me opportunities to examine how people understand their identities, beliefs, relationships, and place in society. Through historical research, literary analysis, academic writing, and interdisciplinary study, I have explored subjects ranging from American religious movements and women’s leadership to popular culture, literature, constitutional questions, and public memory.

For my senior capstone in American Studies, I am conducting historical research on Barbara B. Smith’s leadership as Relief Society General President from 1974 to 1984. My research examines how her personal experiences shaped her understanding of women’s authority, family responsibility, and the social and political questions of her presidency, including the national debate over the Equal Rights Amendment. My goal is to develop a fuller understanding of her leadership and contributions beyond the position for which she is often remembered.

My academic writing has included historical and cultural research, religious commentary, literary criticism, and analysis of American institutions and social change. Recent projects have examined Charles Alexander Eastman’s experiences with education and cultural identity, the role of television in shaping American ideas about family, religious freedom and constitutional interpretation, women’s contributions to institutional history, and the relationship between literature and visual storytelling. My religious studies have also included research and writing on scriptural interpretation, discipleship, covenant theology, and religious biography.

My academic experience extends beyond coursework through collaborative research, exhibitions, conferences, and professional engagement. I contributed to a BYU Library exhibition about Gail S. Halvorsen, participated in the 2026 Interfaith Leadership Summit in Chicago, and volunteered at BYU’s Religious Educators Conference. I also completed a faculty-supervised academic internship working with Professor Mary Jane Searle on religious and historical research, writing, manuscript development, and editorial projects. I designed and maintain her professional website, maryjanesearle.com. I received two academic scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year.

I have accepted an internship with the London Public Affairs Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Winter 2027 and expect to complete my bachelor’s degree in American Studies in April 2027.

My professional and academic experiences have given me a strong foundation in research, writing, design, and communication. I enjoy examining historical and cultural questions, understanding different perspectives, and presenting ideas in ways that are thoughtful, accurate, and accessible. Whether I am researching a historical figure, analyzing literature, developing written content, or designing a visual campaign, I bring the same attention to detail, curiosity, and commitment to clear communication.
